Experiential learning for humans with horses

Experiential learning for humans with horses

Experiential learning for humans with horses

Equine-facilitated learning can help develop and improve skills including emotional awareness, communication, problem solving, boundary setting, and creativity through goal-oriented, groundwork (non-riding) activities. No horse experience necessary.

How equine-facilitated learning works

Experiential learning for humans with horses

Experiential learning for humans with horses

Horses are prey animals, which means they’re highly sensitive to what’s happening around them. They can pick up on subtle changes in how we’re feeling and respond to subtle shifts through their body language.

Awareness

Awareness

There are no “right” or “wrong” feelings or behaviors. The horse’s response simply helps bring awareness to what’s happening with participants in the moment. With a trained facilitator, participants can explore what they notice about themselves and experiment with new ways of being that they can carry into everyday life outside of sessions. description.

Natalie Kuhn & Here with the Herd

Natalie Kuhn is the Founder and Owner of Here with the Herd and certified by The HERD Institute® as an Equine-Facilitated Learning Practitioner. Horses have profoundly shaped Natalie’s life, from experiencing human-horse partnership firsthand to volunteering in therapeutic riding and ultimately leaving the corporate world to focus on Equine-Facilitated Learning and return to school for a Marriage and Family Therapy master’s program at Iona University. Through her own experiences within immersive programs across the United States, she’s seen again and again how horses can change people in powerful ways and is honored to get to scale that work in New York.

Here with the Herd offers facilitated ground-based activities between humans and horses that can help humans improve their relationship with themselves, and with others, while building awareness about horse history, the equine industry, and how to support organizations and initiatives focused on the health, humane treatment, and long-term protection of horses. Services Curated for You

Sessions are designed around your unique goals, needs, and level of comfort. Within an intake call we’ll discuss what type of session you think would be best for you, and what you’re looking to achieve. An initial discussion paired with ongoing check-ins enable us to co-create programming initially and then adjust as needed to help you reach your goals.

All sessions are offered unmounted (on the ground alongside horses, non-riding) at this time.

One-on-One Sessions

Individual sessions (for children or adults) offer dedicated time alongside a horse, or horses. Participants are invited to observe, interact, and engage at their own pace, with guided reflection woven throughout the experience. Through mindful, ground-based activities, the horse becomes a partner in deepening awareness, noticing patterns, and exploring new ways of being that can be taken into your day to day.

Couple or Family Sessions

Couple and family sessions create space for you to slow down together and share a meaningful experience alongside your loved one(s) and a horse, or horses. These sessions invite curiosity about how either, or each, of you relate, interact, and show up with one another giving you the opportunity to explore and practice new ways of being together.
